A. Icky Thump
B. Baby Brother

(izvinite)... moram da ga preslušam, pošto odmorim uho, to me uvek čini nervoznim”.

Paris Hilton faces 45-day sentence
Socialite to see jail for violating probation from January reckless-driving conviction
Associated Press
Originally published May 5, 2007
LOS ANGELES // A judge sentenced Paris Hilton to 45 days in the county jail yesterday for violating her probation, putting the brakes on the hotel heiress' famous high life.

Hilton, who parlayed her name and relentless partying into worldwide notoriety, must go to jail on June 5 and will not be allowed any work release, furloughs, use of an alternative jail or electronic monitoring in lieu of jail, Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer ruled after a hearing.

The judge ruled that she was in violation of the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless-driving case.

"I'm very sorry, and from now on I'm going to pay complete attention to everything. I'm sorry, and I did not do it on purpose at all," she told the judge before he announced the sentence.

She was then ordered to report to a women's jail in suburban Lynwood on the set date or face 90 days behind bars. The judge's ruling excluded her from paying to serve time in a jail of her choice, as some are allowed.

As a city prosecutor said during closing arguments that Hilton deserved jail time, Hilton's mother, Kathy, laughed. When the judge ruled, Kathy Hilton blurted out: "May I have your autograph?"

Paris Hilton was among a series of witnesses who took the stand during the hearing. She testified that she believed her license was initially suspended for 30 days and that she was allowed to drive for work purposes during the next 90 days.

She said that when an officer who stopped her in January made her sign a document stating her license was suspended, she thought he was mistaken and did not actually look at the document.

Also called to the stand was Hilton's spokesman, Elliot Mintz. Hilton and her attorneys characterized Mintz as a liaison between Hilton and her lawyers.

Mintz testified that to his knowledge Hilton did not drive during the 30-day period. He said he then advised her that he believed her license was no longer suspended.

The judge called Mintz's testimony worthless and expressed disbelief at Hilton's lawyers.

"I can't believe that either attorney did not tell her that the suspension had been upheld," the judge said. "She wanted to disregard everything that was said and continue to drive no matter what."

Hilton looked forward and didn't speak to news media as she left court. Her mother looked upset.

One of her attorneys, Howard Weitzman, said he would appeal.

"I'm shocked, I'm surprised and really disheartened in the system that I've worked in for close to 40 years," he said.

He said the sentence was "uncalled for, inappropriate and bordered on the ludicrous."

"I think she's singled out because of who she is," Weitzman said.

Hilton had arrived at the Metropolitan Courthouse 10 minutes late, ignoring screams of photographers as she swept in with her attorneys, mother and father, Rick Hilton. Dozens of photographers and reporters lined up at the rear entrance.

Hilton, 26, pleaded no contest in January to reckless driving stemming from a Sept. 7 arrest in Hollywood. Police said she appeared intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test. She had a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent, the level at which an adult driver is in violation of the law.

She was sentenced to 36 months probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines.

Two traffic stops and failure to enroll in a mandated alcohol education program are what landed the socialite back in court.

Hilton backs online pardon appeal

Image

Celebrity heiress Paris Hilton is backing an online petition seeking a pardon of her 45-day prison sentence because she enlivens "mundane" lives.

The petition to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also claims she was being used as a scapegoat to highlight the dangers of drink-driving.

Hilton was sentenced after being found guilty of violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction.

She must start her jail term by 5 June or risk a doubling of her sentence.

'Role model'

In a message on a MySpace website, Ms Hilton apparently endorsed the online appeal, saying: "My friend Joshua started his petition, please help and sihn it (sic). I LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!"

The petition paints Ms Hilton as a role model who "provides hope for young people all over the US and the world. She provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives".

It also draws parallels between other high-profile US figures who were forgiven for their misdeeds.

"If the late former President Gerald Ford could find it in his heart to pardon the late former President Richard Nixon after his mistake(s), we undeniably support Paris Hilton being pardoned for her honest mistake," it says.

Mr Schwarzenegger's press secretary, Aaron McLear, said the governor would not become involved in any case "until the individual has exhausted their judicial remedies".

Ms Hilton's representative, Elliot Mintz, could not verify whether the MySpace message attributed to his celebrity client was genuine, but he did say the petition "appeared to be authentic".

Separately, her lawyers have said they will appeal against the sentence.

Hoću da me osetite...“

Radio pulls 'promotional' track for brand of hair gel

Helen Pidd
Saturday May 5, 2007
The Guardian

Radio 1 was last night forced to withdraw a song some of its top DJs had been playing after it emerged the track appeared to be a thinly disguised advert for a brand of hair gel.

The electro track called Style, Attract, Play by Shocka featuring Honeyshot has featured on programmes by Judge Jules and Annie Nightingale in recent months.

Style, Attract Play is the slogan for the hair product range Shockwaves. Honeyshot was created by the advertising firm Saatchi & Saatchi as a pop group that can be bought "off the shelf" by companies to covertly promote their brands.

When Radio 1 was informed yesterday by the Guardian about the song's origins, a spokesman said: "The track was presented to Radio 1 in the usual way, via a legitimate promotions company and we were not aware that it was a promotional tool for a hair product.

"As this is created by an advertising agency with the sole purpose of selling this product, and we do not play adverts, it is not something we would play again."

Other stations including Kiss and XFM have also played the song.

Initially, the Shockwaves press office said it knew nothing about the song and its relationship to the brand. But a spokeswoman called back later to admit "there may be a link" and would confirm when she knew more.

Several hours later a different spokeswoman said she could not speak to anyone at Procter & Gamble, the company which owns Shockwaves, and therefore could not comment further.

Honeyshot were put together by Saatchi & Saatchi via an advert in The Stage newspaper. After the launch, Brand Republic magazine described the band as being "the most disposable incarnation of pop in a post reality-TV world".

No one from Saatchi & Saatchi was available for comment yesterday.

But in an interview with the Sunday Times last year Andrew Wilkie, managing director of Gum, the company's content division which created the band, said that Honeyshot offered a wealth of opportunity.

He said: "It could be as simple as sponsorship of a tour through to clothing that could be worn, drinks, cosmetics - all that stuff is possible."

Peter Robinson, who drew attention to the band on his influential pop music Popjustice website, described the idea as a "new low" in cynical marketing.

"It's risky - if I realised I'd been cynically duped like this I'd be even less trusting of the brand," he said.

PR expert Julian Henry, who runs Henry's House agency, said: "I think it's a crass and slightly crap attempt to hoodwink the public and the press."

ZZ Top Cancels Its European Tour

HOUSTON — ZZ Top has canceled its European tour so Dusty Hill can undergo treatment for a benign growth in his inner ear that's affecting his hearing.

Dr. Shawn Nasseri, a California otolaryngologist who is treating the 57-year-old bassist/singer, said preliminary plans don't include surgery.

"In the near-term, we plan to stabilize Dusty's hearing and symptoms with medication and a conservative management strategy," he said in a statement.

ZZ Top got its start in Houston in 1969 when local guitarist Billy Gibbons got together with Hill and drummer Frank Beard, from Dallas-based band American Blues.

The band has been touring for much of the spring. Its European tour was to start June 15 in Leipzig, Germany, and run into early July.

More U.S. dates were set for July and August. Those shows, starting July 15 in Dallas, weren't expected to be affected.

"I'm looking forward to dealing with this problem and getting back out there with Billy and Frank," Hill said. "I'm sure we'll put this behind us very shortly."

Ljudi, izasao novi Art Brut!

Art Brut
It's a Bit Complicated
[Downtown; 2007]
Rating: 7.4

If ever there was a group sensitive to the dreaded sophomore slump, it'd be Art Brut. For a group who made their entrance with the autobiographical origin story "Formed a Band", the pledge that "it's not irony, it's not rock'n'roll," and a humble and brash sound meant more to buttress singer Eddie Argos' wry observations than draw attention, landmines for a "mature" follow-up are everywhere. Change the lyrical approach to sober up the honest and clever self-indulgence, and you forfeit the angle that makes Art Brut unique and lovable. Pretty up the music too much, and you distract from and compromise Argos' regular-dude frontman bit. Merely remake Bang Bang Rock N' Roll, and risk the accusation that the band's concept was only good for one 30-minute shot, sentencing the group to the cult-band one-and-done footnotes. No wonder the second album is called It's a Bit Complicated.

Perhaps aware of this foreboding obstacle course, Art Brut have wisely managed to somehow make all of these mistakes and none of them, incrementally expanding their sonic palette while Argos evinces a slightly more grown-up perspective, yet never straying too far from the band's original M.O. Sure, there's a more muscular lead-guitar on most tracks here, they've discovered the joys of audible backing vocals, and a horn section even turns up on "Late Sunday Evening", but there aren't any ill-advised dalliances with laptop beats or orchestration or even, god forbid, ballads. Meanwhile, Argos' muse has perceptibly changed from "gee-golly, I'm in a band!" and bedroom performance anxiety to domestic living and the simple joy of music-listening without blunting his wit or giving in to the temptation to talk about fame and touring.

The subtle shift is apparent from the very start, as "Pump Up the Volume" hangs on a lead riff and an almost-solo more upfront than anything on Bang Bang, albeit far too slowly played to register as overly flashy. Meanwhile, the vocal is classic Argos, amplifying the dilemma of mid-makeout radio adjustment to epic proportions, interrupting a kiss to tentatively ask "have you heard this song before?" Sexxing is, in fact, on Argos' mind throughout the record, from the courtship drama of "Direct Hit" to stay-in-bed-baby pleadings of "Blame It on the Trains". "Jealous Guy" is even the polar opposite of the last record's slightly uncomfortable impotence trilogy, finding the singer pleading with his sleepy girlfriend to stay up and frolic while torturing himself with paranoia about her exes.

But more effective than these romantic ruminations are the tracks where Art Brut switches up their meta-aware music-about-music tendencies for the better, progressing from songs about making songs to songs about the irresistible urge to build a soundtrack to one's own life. In a way, "Pump Up the Volume" fits this category as well; if nothing else, it's about wanting to enhance an already, er, stimulating experience with the proper audio accompaniment. "Sound of Summer" is even more direct, fetishizing the process of creating the perfect mixtape in painstaking detail, right down to breaking the tabs "so you can't tape over it ever." The zenith of this subject is clearly reached on "Nag Nag Nag Nag", the band's between-albums single that amps up the central riff and sun-bleached backing vocals to make the song's dead-on coming-of-age headphones drama properly triumphant.

The upgrades in production values aren't always an improvement, however, as it occasionally comes at the sacrifice of the band's scrupulous spontaneity. Argos' self-aware humor is still present-- pronouncing "here comes the really good bit!" in the breakdown of "Direct Hit" or apologizing for his Germ-glish ("punk rock is nicht tot") in "St. Pauli"-- but doesn't produce as many banner-waving one-liners. Moments like "People in Love" and "Post Soothing Out" are more demure than anything found on the group's debut, and embellishments like the horn breakdown of "Late Sunday Evening" are a poor substitute for the homegrown fist-pump peaks of older tracks like "Emily Kane" and "Modern Art".

These missteps are testament to Art Brut's hidden element: the band itself. While Argos draws the spotlight of most reviews (this one included), the rest of the band quietly adds its own crucial element, which at its best is a simple, raucous sound perfect for underscoring melodramatic tales of sex and rock. As "St. Pauli" nervously reflects, Art Brut are at heart a throwback punk band-- albeit one with a frontman that is far more charming, thoughtful, and witty than your typical three-chord bashers-- and two albums down, they're already bumping up against the constraints of that genre. By only gently nudging the musical formula on It's a Bit Complicated, Art Brut have succeeded in crafting a satisfying half-mature sequel, but may have only delayed, rather than thwarted, the sophomore jinx.

Snoop Dogg wants to be Australian

Snoop Dogg has launched a campaign to gain Australian citizenship.

As previously reported, the rapper was banned from entering the country in April because of his criminal record and recent run-ins with the law.

Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews denied the rapper a visa because of previous criminal convictions in the U.S.

MTV in Australia will now run a series of short films of Snoop attempting to becoming an Australian citizen, reports All Hip-Hop.

They will break the comedic 11-minute short into 19 spots which feature the rapper on various beaches, purchasing a home in Sydney's exclusive Vaucluse residential area, and urging everyone to "get the girls ready and put on the barbecue."

In the statement the rapper said: "Journey with me as I become a citizen of the land Down Under."

Fans can log on to mtv.com/au/snoop to vote and show their support for the rapper, and sign a petition to grant him citizenship into Australia.

Keith Richards lashes out at Swedish newspapers

'Write the truth!' demands The Rolling Stones guitarist
29.Aug.07 5:46pm

Image

Keith Richards has demanded an apology from Swedish newspapers that panned The Rolling Stones' concert in the country earlier this month.

Two tabloids, Expressen and Aftonbladet, gave the August 3 show at Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg scathing reviews, with Expressen alleging that Richards was very drunk on stage and Aftonbladet giving it a two on a five-point scale, reports the Associated Press.

"This is a first!" Richards wrote in a letter published by Stockholm daily Dagens Nyheter.

"Never before have I risen to the bait of a bad review. But this time...I have to stand up... for our fans all over Sweden...to say that you owe them, and us, an apology."

He continued: "There were 56,000 people in Ullevi stadium who bought a ticket to our concert - and experienced a completely different show than the one you 'reviewed'.

"How dare you cheapen the experience for them - and for the hundreds of thousands of other people across Sweden who weren't at Ullevi and have only your 'review' to go on.

"Write the truth. It was a good show," Richards concluded.

Aftonbladet's music critic Markus Larsson answered back: "I am not going to apologize for my subjective opinion.

"It is Keith who should apologise. After all it costs around $145 to see a rock star who can hardly handle the riff to 'Brown Sugar' any more."
